In a press launch this afternoon, Globe Telecom announced the opening of a new division aptly named Globe Labs. The new department will embark in innovative projects including the recently concluded 3G Multimedia Challenge.
Globe Labs will primarily focus on future technologies which can be later on deployed to the market. The group will open up and network with a community of Filipino developers by providing them resources, invitation to training and competitions in the mobile and 3G spaces including new technologies that appeal to the relevant market.
Globe Labs will have four general activities:
- building future technology test beds
- provide creative and secured environments for developers
- multi-level partnership with developers to build and showcase applications
- support developer partners
They even have geeky titles like “Head of Future Technology“.
Their first project under this new division is the 3G Multimedia Challenge where individuals, companies and academic institutions were invited to develop and deploy applications on Advanced VOIP, Group Mobile Gaming, File Sharing, Enterprise/Consumer IM and Social Networking among others.
Winners were announced last June 6 with D3Systems winning the grand prize of Php1,000,000 followed by students from the Ateneo De Manila (Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center).
Globe Labs will also cater to freelance developers to propose new and innovative ideas it can help support thru their public portal at www.globelabs.com.ph. Globe will be providing enterprise support as well as a computer lab where partners can use to develop and deploy their projects.
