Court issues TRO against Uber and GrabCar in PH

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court has issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the operations of Uber and GrabCar in the Philippines.

The 20-day TRO was issued by the Quezon City RTC Branch 217 in accordance to the petition filed by transport coalition STOP & GO, Inc. against the orders of the DOTC and LTFRB that allows transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) to operate in the country.

UPDATE: The TRO on Uber and GrabCar only covers new applicants for the next 20 days. The current fleet will operate as normal.

“Napakalaking epekto nito sa hanapbuhay ng mga miyembro namin na taxi driver at UV Express. Itong Uber at Grab, wala naman itong franchise,” Stop & Go Coalition president Jun Magno told dzMM.

Magno also told GMA News that Uber and Grab is wrong because not having a franchise is against the law, and they are charging passengers without following the tariff issued by the LTFRB.

    I don’t agree with the idea of removing the competition to bolster ones earnings. It doesn’t seem like an ethical thing to do.

  6. Anong tarif ang sinasabi nila e yung minus ten ba ng taxi natutupad ng 100%? umambon lang kontrata na mga taxi o kaya PLUS ##? Minsan pa nga PLUS ###?! kesyo matrapik daw dun sa area (saan pa ba ang d mtrapik ngayon) at kmusta naman ang unit ng mga taxi? lagi bang maayos? Helloooooo????

  8. Yes, it’s true. Just because their income are affected, they want uber and grab out of their way. I feel safer for my daughter to ride in those cars than with the ordinary taxis na “pabyahe na sa opposite way ng destination mo, at kapag sinabi mo ang place mo ay kung hindi pagarahe, kontrata ka o tatanggihan ka talaga. Bihira lang ang driver nila na tatanggapin kang ihatid. With uber, wala ng tanggi, kahit saan pa. Identified pa ang driver. Kaya saan ka pa?

  10. They don’t have the right to complain specially those taxi drivers na mas maarte pa sa maarte. GrabCar and Uber is not just an alternative anymore as they provide services better than the taxis and despite the high prices during peak hours you don’t hear the passengers complain at all. Kung gusto nila kumita, do their job properly, these services arent to blame for their irresponsibility. Kasalanan ng mga taxi driver kung di sila kumikita, magpaskay kayo if you want to earn and that’s your freaking job for crying out loud.
