For today’s edition of our Christmas giveaway, we’re giving away this Marshall Major headphones worth Php4,650. But before that, let me share with you why this little baby should be in your next gadget wish list. Check out below my week-long jam session with the Marshall Major and how you can take it home with you.
When it comes to earphones and headphones, I prefer over-the-ear headphones because the sound experience is more immersive. The Marshall Major belongs in this category. However, the ear cups aren’t really as big as I wanted them to be like the full-sized headphones.
Nevertheless, they’re still comfortable, lightweight and easy to carry around the neck when using it on a trip.
I brought the white model with me on my recent trip to Malaysia and used it most of the time, especially on the 3.5 hours flight from Clark to KL. The problem with the white though is that it can easily get stained from the dust, grease and other particulates. I would have liked the black variant better.
The white Marshall Major does have a unique appeal though. Some of the ladies in our delegation noticed it and loved it. I guess it all build down tot he design and build quality when you want to go bright and bold with headphones. The headband is made of soft cushy materials wrapped in leather. The ear pads are made of the same soft foam with smooth rubber and leather accents on the outer part and pillow-like pads on the inner walls.
Each earpad is extended by a sliding metal cord that adjusts the circumference of the headband by 1 to 1.5 inches on each side. The ear pads sits comfortable on my ears when they’re fully extended so I’m thinking guys with way bigger heads will find this uncomfortable if not un-usable.
The audio cable has an accordion-type construction and extends a full 2.5 meters when fully stretched but shrinks to a manageable 1.5 meters when let loose. The 3.5mm audio jack is made up of gold-plated metal with a spring coil wrapped around the end of the rubber cable to prevent it from getting bruised or mangled.
As for sound performance, the Marshall Major got some pretty good marks — pretty even through-out the entire range, has some very deep bass and no distortion even at the highest volume.
Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” is dead set and very clear with good separation between the drums and tambourine. You also get very smooth bass and cool strings when you play “Price Tag” by Tyler Ward feat. Eppic. It’s pretty stable and even that I was able to bear “Doo Bidoo” by Kamikazee at full volume — that song is almost always ear-shattering when you crank up the volume.
If you’re into podcasts and audio books, the Marshall Major does a good job at delivering voice clarify and reducing vocal bass.
Noise isolation is good but not fully accomplished because of the fit of the headphones (I was still able to hear the baby crying in the plane on our way back home).
Aside from the fit and color, I’ve got no other qualms with the Marshall Major headphone. They’ve added some finer details into the design like the copper plates for the logo and the Dr. Jim Marshall signature at the bottom part of the headband.
The Marshall Major headphone retails for Php4,650 in local stores like iStudio, Listening Room, Urban Athletics and Astrovision.

honestly, this headphone doesn’t have a very pleasing sound. these are a pair of overrated cans. and this is not a matter of taste; there’s too much distortion on this that can indeed damage one’s ears. frequency response testing on these headphone likewise shown hard evidence of its subpar performance.
to sir yuga: i hope that you are not getting paid to give this review. there are much safer and better alternatives out there for the price!.. just saying..
this can ruin your ears and may forever change your musical taste for the worse, even worst than a pitiful and narrowheaded sense of life. maybe not if you are a rebecca black fan.
i suggest the reader to go search the internet and find something better… i may be a pedantic fool but these are awful i had to write this up.. oh god. i just had to say this out of pity for the money one is about to waste dropping down for this —-.
