Statisa, one of the leading providers of the market and consumer data, has released the lists of the top smartphones that emit the most and the least radiation.

The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz) has a comprehensive database of new and old smartphones and the level of radiation they emit. The parameters include the following:

  • Current smartphones (from Apple, Blackberry, Google, HTC, Huawei, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony, Xiaomi, ZTE) that were released as of December 10, 2018.
  • Radiation tested while calling phone with the ear.

In the list, the top smartphone emitting the most radiation is the Xiaomi Mi A1, next is the OnePlus 5T, and in the third place is the Xiaomi Mi Max 3. The list also shows that the majority of the smartphones emitting the most radiation come from Xiaomi and OnePlus which are Chinese phone companies.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and the ZTE Axon Elite come out on top as the smartphone that emits the least radiation. It also shows that the majority of the Samsung smartphones emit low radiation which is healthy for users.

Cellphones emit non-ionizing radiation. It doesn’t increase cancer risk, unlike x-rays and ultraviolet which in high energy levels are ionizing radiation.

The only side effect of getting exposed to non-ionizing radiation is heat. So maybe the advantage of having low radiation phones is that they have a lesser chance of burning your pocket or face. But no matter the cellphone radiation, that alone won’t cause cancer.
