101 Ways to Make Extra Money

The March 2006 issues of Entrepreneur magazine features “101 Ways to Make Extra Money“.

I quickly grabbed a copy thinking this could be a really good read only to be disappointed. Of the 101 ways that they enumerated, only two of them were internet related:

# 74 – Web Master. The quick “how to and how much” mentioned Php300USD 5INR 433EUR 5CNY 37 per page (so 90’s IMO). And I thought being a “web master” is supposed to be an IT career already, not just an extra gig. Oh well, you can be a “web master” from 9 to 5 then still be a webmaster in the evenings or week ends.

# 49 – eBay Trader. Well, since we already have the local eBay.ph, I guess some people are really making money out of it.

I was actually expecting “paid blogger” on the list. Silly me.

Other technical gigs included in the list are Computer Builder (I think they meant assembler), Content Provider (selling ringtones to telcos), Personalized Photo Calendar Maker, Tape Converter (V8, VCD, DVD).

The rest are really odd jobs (i.e. Bee Keeper, Suckling Pig Roaster, and Matchmaker). I really don’t know where they pull these ideas. Just wasted my Php125USD 2INR 181EUR 2CNY 16.

There’s an article about podcasting there too but nothing we don’t know already. Just wanted to correct something the writer, JC Medina, stressed: “Podcasting is actually a marriage of two key technologies: MP3 and RSS“. It’s not really mp3 but “digital media” (audio or video for that matter). MP3 is just the popular format but there’s a whole lot more — Quicktime, DivX, etc.

What is “90’s” about 300/page? The rate is now lower or higher? Or webmasters no longer quote per page?

hmmm… the price really sounds outdated… but I guess all of us knows that already.

dito sa states… kasama sa top 10 entry level careers is a .NET developer… with a $45-60k per year entry level salary.

too bad I barely passed c# back in college.

In the 90’s, people charge on a per page basis since webpages then are mostly static. Now, it’s more like an hourly/daily basis or a per module basis. Say web design is 10k (all-in), CMS is another 8k, etc…

I believe the PhilWeavers group has an industry standard set for their members.
