We got a new desktop PC the other day after selling the old one to my kumpare. The new rig is what I use at home to spare my laptop from the day-to-day wear and tear:
AMD Athlon64 3800+ X2 (Dual Core, 2.0GHz)
1GB Corsair DDR2-533 PC4200
Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 128-bit 128MB
MSI KMM-V Mobo
LG Dual-Layer 24x DVD+RW
320GB Seagate HDD SATA
So, here’s my chance to dual-boot with Ubuntu and it went thru just fine without any problems. Except one. My Linksys router would not work so I was forced to hook up my PLDT DSL line directly into the PC. Now, the problem is, I don’t know how to set it up in Ubuntu. I’ve searched far and wide to no avail.
Anybody had any experience with this? Help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

does your pldt dsl needs to login first to be able to connect to the internet or you just have to set the static ip?
marvin says:
Menu(start in windows)->System->Administration->Networking:
in Connections Tab, it should detect your NIC, then click Properties at the right, check the enable this connection then the Connection Settings portion will be enabled, select now DHCP for Configuration.
that’s my setup under globelines broadband, i think it’s the same with pldt.

I’ve installed Ubuntu months ago, and got it connected instantly with my uncle’s Linksys router. But since my uncle took the router back to his place, I’ve had the same problems as Ubuntu hasn’t any PPPoE configuration menu/option in the Networking Administration dialog—only dial-up and DHCP config for routed networks.
I’ve searched for tips and got this answer from the Ubuntu Forums, hope this helps. I still haven’t tried that on my Ubuntu installation since I can’t connect there yet. :)
Edwin says:
if youre using pppoe follow the guide that aja lapuz suggested but if your dsl provider just gave you an static ip its simple. :D

how much is your new rig? for how much did you sell your old one? you know, until now I haven’t got a pc.
Chin says:
Hi Yuga,
In case you haven’t tried it, just run pppoeconf in a terminal. That ought to do it.

For all the PLDT DSL subscribers and using a Linksys Router…heres a tip, don’t connect the PLDT DSL modem through the internet slot of your Linksys Router instead in 1 of the slots of your router…but before u do this all u must setup ur router by going to 192.168.1.1 on your webpage and disable DHCP server, save then turn off your modem, routers and disconnect all the lan cables…then install again but once again make sure your PLDT DSL modem must connect through one of those ports of your linksys router and not in the internet slot…Btw, hope this will work to others and hope i helped you guys…(sorry for the grammars, please understand by yourself, tenx)
