Nikon has announced two new digital SLR cameras – the FX-format flagship D5 and the DX-format D500.
First up is the Nikon D5 which sports a FX-format 20.8 megapixel CMOS sensor that can shoot 4K UHD (30p) videos and high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 12 fps. It has a Multi-CAM 20K autofocus sensor module capable of 153 focus points (99 of which are cross-type sensors), and an ISO sensitivity of up to 102400 which can be extended to Hi 5 – a whopping ISO 3280000 equivalent).
Other features include 3.2-inch, 2,359k-dot touchscreen LCD, 100%-coverage viewfinder, and built-in 1000 Base-T 400MBps Ethernet for fast file transfers. The D5 also supports double memory card slots and comes in two models depending on media type: XQD cards and CompactFlash cards.
Next is the D500 with a 20.9-megapixel DX-Format CMOS sensor and can also shoot 4K UHD videos with 10 fps continuous shooting. Like the D5, it also sports a Multi-CAM 20K autofocus sensor module with 153 focus points. ISO falls a bit short compared to D5 with a native ISO of 51200 which can be extended to 1640000.
It also has a 3.2-inch, 2,359k-dot touchscreen LCD, Bluetooth, WiFi, XQD card slot, and SD card slot.
The Nikon D5 is priced at $6,500 (body-only) while the D500 costs $2,000 (body-only).
