Been coordinating with our web designer (a kick-ass designer if I might add) for more than 3 months to come up with a new logo design for YugaTech and I’m very happy with the results so I’m sharing it with you ahead of schedule.
It’s a little edgy but still a bit simple and we’re sticking with the orange color scheme (the two font colors will adopt the orange and blue as well as the gray scale version, depending on the format where it will be used).
We’re in the final stages of the new blog theme re-design and, hopefully, we will be able to release that by middle of this month. Then after that, I’ll concentrate on the apps again. We’re also doing some t-shirts and other stuff with the new logo to give-away to readers.
Let me know what you think!

cristine says:

Operation Super says:
That power button is a nice touch.
Arnold Gamboa says:
Ayos!
Abe Olandres says:
@cristine – I’m still reviewing all the finalist of thats contest. It has taken me more time than expected since there were 3 other contests we did for December. This is the only one we have not finished. Please give me 1 week to finalize the top 10 and the final winner. Thanks!
JEJEJE says:
Finally. Then replace your favicon on the site too. The favicon really sucks.
I’ll be waiting for the new theme. Cheers!
JM says:
Ikaw talaga Abe, sinabayan mo ang Starbucks ha! Hahahaha. In any case, love the new logo! So “edgy” nga–as in daming edge, parang 3D! Which is the “in” thing nowadays. Can’t wait for the full blog redesign ;)
Tristan Khalil Singkala says:
Nice new logo, Sir Abe!
New look for the New Year!
Happy New Year Sir!
NemOry says:
I really admire the logo creator of the new Logo, what a perfect design and concept, I am so inspired because I do logos for companies, websites too.
I really amire you the creator, I hope to know you.
And I cant wait to wear a Yugatech t-shirt with that awesome logo. It’s a firing Kick-Ass
RJ says:
Abe, it is nice but I hope you can still reconsider to keep it simple. Honestly, it is difficult to read especially for those who haven’t known your brand yet.
The “power logo” can be mistaken as either an “E” or a “C”
The “T” can be mistaken as “1”
It is easy to read for those already familiar to your site. But to those who are not, it requires more effort to decipher and might not be helpful in your branding.
Just my 2 cents.
And it is still your call, your brand and your website.
Congrats and Happy New Year!
wites says:
Pwede bang mahiram yang designer mo? ^^
The logo looks a little mechanical but i’m digging the “G”. As for the symbol, i don’t quite get it. IMHO, Yugatech stood the test of time without the symbol so why start now? Maybe play with the typography more. Overall, I’d say 50/50.
ryanV says:
Nice work! I like this new logo. And that polygonized “Y” would make a nice favicon as well (have to agree with @JEJEJE about the current favicon — no offense meant since it’s your pix).
BTW, I think I saw you in MOA last Jan 1 (when I was still in Manila) around 2:30pm by the elevators. Were you there? I was a bit doubtful and was taken by surprise that I failed to simply ask. :)
Jam. says:
How about updating your logo on the iPhone app
MobilePinas says:
great logo! more power yugatech!
Paul says:
Ubuntu colors. Do like.
NemOry says:
@sir Yuga can I ask about my entry in the Lenovo contest? If the youtube video is a valid entry?hehe. .because it is a written type also.hehe. Thank you. .
And let me say it again. .I really adore the Logo Creator, I have been inspired very much because of this. I got alot of ideas from it.
florence says:
free tshirts? yehey! :D
dulfo says:
Like the ‘YUGATECH’ logo but not with the icon ‘Y’. ‘Y’ to me is synomous to a well known search engine. But, ‘Yugatech’ I am hoping sir Abe may one day be a household name like some technology search engine. You want to know about some new technology, just go to yugatech and kaboom! It displays the info tech that you need.
I just think YUGATECH without the icon ‘Y’ is future proof and will not be mis-interpreted as that search engine that also starts in ‘Y’.
NemOry says:
That 3 polygons that forms a ‘Y’ Can be the Favicon for this site, but even though, I am already used with the recent one. Because it’s easy to identify in my bookmarks if I see the face of sir Abe.hehe
Christopher says:
nice logo.. sana baguhin na din yung format ng site para bagong bago para sa 2011..
jdm says:
hawig sa MACROSS/ROBOTECH font.
kahit wala na yun word na “TECH”
[LOGO]YUGA

cristal says:
nice logo sir yuga, mas bagay siya kesa sa current logo…can’t wait to see the new web design!
NemOry says:
Yeah the ‘G’ is very fitted right there like it’s saying ‘I’m the Gadgets’ hehe. .kaya nga admire q talaga ang designer. .what a concept.
no_label says:
the new logo reminds me of Adobe…lol
But its really looks refreshing…nice one.
Clifford says:
NICE!!!!!!!! i love it….clean simple and techyish :) nice work you guys :)
superdan says:
nice logo. simple but nice. by any chance is this web designer ferlin hicarte? haha.
anyways, new year, new logo. good way to start the year yuga.
jumper says:
i prefer symmetry and equal lettering spaces, so the wording doesn’t really work for me. the logo is okay, though.
yung sa lettering, what i mean is:
– some letters overlap and others don’t
– because of the overlaps, some letters are partially blocked (such as the U and T), w/c makes the spacing unequal
– the “G” is a special design (power switch, w/c is a really nice touch) but is made to look like the rest of the letters – better if the color/size/font is different to make it stand out
i would have preferred it to look something like this: http://i52.tinypic.com/2ueh0tx.jpg
just my humble opinion, though. :) great site, btw!
ewancoo says:
hindi ko type. masyadong robotic yung logo. also, in my opinion orange doesn’t represent anything about tech :)
jumper says:
another nit (to pick): i would also prefer the shape of the Y on your logo to be the same as the one on the lettering. if you notice, the point of intersection is lower on the logo than on the lettering. :D
ellen says:
now that is techie! :) nice new logo, looking forward to seeing the new techie blog theme!

dark colors would be better I think. Suggestion lang po.
Pusang Kulog says:
I would have prefer the orange part of the logo to follow the shape of the white letter Y as in there will be two Ys discernible in it… But hey, it’s your blog and you have done and achieved a lot of wonderful things from it. So follow your instincts as that is what made yugatech special!
With or without the shirts, I’m still a fan! Wehehe… Will be waiting for the blog overhaul!

Medyo too industrial ang dating. Lalo na yung ‘tech’. Ang impression ay parang manufacturing something. My opinion only…
Nong says:

kyle says:
I expect a new site design this 2011 but still with thesame orange theme.
marco says:
The logo was ok. It’s way better than your current one. I have a problem with letter “A” though, i’m not sure why.. Uhm.. I don’t know, but the logo vaguely feels as if it was created for a company that sells/expertise in vehicles, y’know, the elements – serious, sharp, corporate, edgy, straight lines, all caps, and not that “fit” for a tech blog. Just my honest opinion though. I have no background at all in designing logo, it just what enters my mind the first time i saw it XD But i must say the power button is a nice touch. It reminds me that it was gadget inspired most of all. I don’t know how can someone mistake it as letter “E” when the only letter E is already written normal way. And the fact that it’s chosen to be emphasized speaks that it must be a unique and significant letter as far as pronouncing the word is concerned, obviously, G. Also the letter “T”, when you read the word as a whole, really looks like T because of the letter E beside it.
Uhm.. You see, i’m not criticizing on the design, but rather on the weird feeling it gives me… Thankfully, the fact that it reads yugatech is an enough reason not to mistake it for any else. Your logo is not the reason why i’m coming here anyway, not that i’m going to stare at it everytime. I don’t know, (obviously)maybe it’s just me, so you can ignore my opinion.. I expect your designer wanting to kill me now XS.,
Anyway, I’m really glad that you’re still using orange as your main theme, it’s my favorite colour, as well as red! :) Though i will be glad if you add some whites where the texts are written.
More amazing and insightful blog post/news/reviews to come. More power to yugatech! This is my favorite pinoy tech blog.
Teknisyan says:
nice.. but you could have change the color of Yuga to say RED then TECH to BLUE or probably the color theme of our flag. :)
NemOry says:
“Yup nga I hope there will be a logo making contest or something graphics creation, also a video title, or just a video contest.hehe”
riki says:
Looks like A4tech at first glance. Still looks good though.
marco says:
Yup rod, i aggree. I wish i saw your comment earlier. On the second look, i think it feels more on construction than manufacturing. Forget what i said about vehicles. Though i think anything corporate can apply.

I don’t see the “G” as to what Gaisano has. May problema ata mata ko hehe.. For some reason I have the same feeling with no_label pag nagkamali lang nang kulay (read: RED in tegelog PULA) at biglang tingin, parang ADOBE LOGO sya (inverted nga lang hehe)
But of course, it’s your call Sir Abe. Nice try though. Hope your team will do a bit of modification lang sana sa Y adobe-ish logo.
Kenneth says:
Wow! :-D
kzian says:
Simple lang pero astig ang dating..
Ferdinand A. says:
The logo and its color looks fine. Madaling makita at makilala lalo na sa facebook wall. But hindi ko type yung font lalo na yung pinagdugtong na “T” and “E” na parang logo na rin kung titignan. For me mas maganda na lang kung simpleng font na lang ang gamitin. Sadly, hindi ko rin type yung power button which represents the “G”
realjarley says:
Nice one sir, it woud be very lovely to wear a shirt with that logo.

It somewhat resembles the logo of A4 tech mouse brand… kung tinititigan mo ng matagal.
But then again….it is great to have and edgy logo…somewhat themed to technology. :-D
Same here, I love the power on on your logo. :-)
I hope i could get a FREE T-Shirt when this logo is released!

It is nice! The Logo is great, the giveaway t-shirts will be AWESOME!
agro says:
Hi Abe,
Like someone else posted above, I’m a fan of symmetry too, so the new logo doesn’t really speak to me. Mainly because of the irregularity and it kinda looks like 4 different fonts were used in just one word.
(My old design prof once taught that using too many different fonts makes a design look like it was done by his grade-school daughter, but that was then, concepts may have changed)
But hey that’s just me, you had a professional do this so I guess he knows what he’s doing.
May I ask though, what does the new logo (the white-space ‘Y’ with all the polygons) represent? I mean, there are usually stories behind logos, is there one here? I mean, the ‘Y’ itself is obvious, but the polygons and the over all irregularity, is there something to that? or is it just a ‘style’ thing?
Onynz says:
Yeah… at first glance you would think that its the A4tech logo…
Joshua M says:

Your new logo ROCKS man! I love it…
Jake says:
Great job! I’m intrigued by the design and the shape of the symbol and its relation to technology. Overall concept is good, although since this is a logo for a technology blog focusing on gadgets where sexy curves are in, it would suit the site more if the fonts are not sharp on the edges. Likewise I’m also bothered about the horizontal bar in the power symbol which represents the G. It breaks and is misaligned with the crossbar of the letter A, creating an ugly distraction. The kerning (spacing between each characters) need further tweaking still.
That said, here is my rough and personal take on the logo:
