The system allowed transmission of 1.02 petabit per second over a distance of 51.7 km. Researchers said that 1 petabit per second is equivalent to 10 million channels of 8K broadcasting per second. Two US-based satellite internet providers are expected to launch in the Philippines this year, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Their entry is expected to help improve internet access in underserved areas as the government continues efforts to expand connectivity across the country.
