The rollout is part of the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, a joint effort of BSP and DICT to promote the use of QR Ph, the country’s standard system for cashless payments. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is introducing cashless payments for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT). To reiterate, the first phase of the cashless payments rollout will start next month. MRT-3 now accepts cashless payments (GCash, QR Ph) following a pilot test run. For cashless payments, commuters can now simply scan the QR code on ticket booth counters. Plus, it supports the Philippines’ adoption of opting for digital payments in government-run services. Moreover, with the booking and cashless payments powered by PayMaya, citizens who avail of tests through PRC only need to show up at the PRC collection sites at their scheduled time.
