The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) allots PHP 7.7 billion for the implementation of its Free Wi-Fi for All project on its proposed 2021 budget. Currently, the department has deployed and operated a total of 4,248 live sites under the Free Wi-Fi for All Program. Through its Region 12 office, the DICT deployed Starlink kits, charging stations, and free internet services under the Government Emergency Communications System (GECS) and Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP). Meanwhile, PLDT and Smart supplied connectivity support, free WiFi, charging stations, and free calls to assist responders and affected residents. This setup works especially well for families managing tight budgets, freelancers with irregular income, students and renters, work-from-home households, small online businesses, vacation or weekend homes.
