In the hopes of faster and more efficient transactions in government offices, President Duterte has just now ordered all government offices to adopt digital payments for the use of reimbursements and collections. 170 also mandates that they should offer a digital mode of collecting payments for taxes, fees, tolls, and other charges. Otherwise, the implementation of digital payments may be subject to a tiered transition period that shall not exceed a period of 3 years from the Order's issuance. The proposed measure aims to create a nationwide digital payments system for transactions with the government and between private groups. The bill seeks to expand the use of digital payments in the country. Tinio said the bill does not clearly state who can access transaction data once digital payments become more common. Visa and GoTyme Bank have entered a multi-year partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of digital payments in the Philippines, South Africa, and future Southeast Asian markets.
