We already know from last week's announcement that Facebook's News Feed is receiving a major overhaul in the coming months. As seen in the post above, Facebook is moving towards combating fake news and misinformation more than ever as their product teams are now working on a system that'll prioritize news that is trustworthy, informative, and local. In order to do this, the social media platform is giving the reigns to the Facebook community as users will have the power to decide whether a publication or source is indeed credible and can be trusted. In the coming weeks, users will be asked whether they're familiar with a news source and if that source is to be trusted. However, Facebook will eliminate from the equation users who aren't familiar with the source in question, this is to ensure that the output ratio is only for those who trust the source and are familiar with it. Zuckerberg is also giving the assurance that this will not lessen the news users will see on Facebook but it will rather only now show sources that are trusted by the community. Facebook is saying goodbye to its dedicated News tab. This move follows similar removals last year in other key markets like the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.  The News tab first appeared in 2018 as Facebook sought to better serve users seeking out news stories and information.
