Google's CEO Sundar Pichai has just introduced in a blog post its latest artificial intelligence to compete against OpenAI's ChatGPT. Google's AI is called Bard, which is their experimental conversational AI service that is powered by LaMDA or Language Model for Dialogue Applications. Google is currently opening it up to testers first before making it widely available to the public in the coming weeks. They also stated that it is initially releasing with their lightweight model of LaMDA, which requires less computing power and thus enables it to scale to more users and receive quality feedback. By next month, Google will also be onboarding individual developers, creators, and enterprises to test out their Generative Language API with the goal of creating a suite of tools and APIs for others to develop and use. Blake Lemoine, the Google engineer who claimed the company's LaMDA AI is sentient, has now been fired from the company after being initially suspended for over a month. The exclusive report comes from Alex Kantrowitz of Big Technology newsletter, stating that Lemoine had in fact shared his dismissal from Google on a Big Technology podcast that will air shortly. Lemoine was initially put on paid administrative leave due to breaching confidentiality after sharing a transcript of his conversation with LaMDA.
