Huawei, a well-known Chinese networking and telecommunications equipment company, has recently donated a cloud-based computer system to the Department of Education (DepEd). This is made possible through the DepEd's Adopt-a-School program (ASP) which gives private entities the opportunity to become active partners in providing assistance, either on a short–term or long–term basis to various concerns in public education. Huawei's Cloud-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) system consists of 50 terminal units composed only of monitor, keyboard, mouse, and adaptor. According to Huawei, the system can save energy and improve efficiency since the terminals do not need a CPU. The cloud-based computer system costs Php8 million and will be installed at the DepEd central office first for testing. Huawei makes some of the most interesting little gadgets around and when I visited their booth at CommunicAsia yesterday, they've got a dozens of Pocket WiFi and USB sticks for all sorts of cellular network on display. The one above is the Huawei WiFi E589 which supports LTE, 3G and 2G connections with speeds up to 50Mbps. This one is the Huawei E398 which is an LTE USB dongle, similar to the one being used by Smart LTE Evolution.
