Commuters riding LRT-2 can now pay for their fares using Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards. They can also use mobile wallets linked to eligible Mastercard cards. Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards can now be used when riding the LRT-2. The feature joins existing cashless payment options on LRT-2 which include mobile NFC payments and GCash Commute QR. With Mastercard contactless payments now available on LRT-2, we're making everyday travel more seamless and secure, helping commuters save time and move through their journeys with greater confidence," said Jason Crasto, Mastercard’s Country Manager for the Philippines. Grab and Mastercard has recently announced a partnership to issue prepaid cards that customers can use online or offline at any merchant around the world that is accepting Mastercard. The partnership involves the integration of Mastercard prepaid card with GrabPay, combining the strengths of Grab with a user base of over 110 million downloads, and Mastercard with 3 million-strong network of merchant outlets. Grab and Mastercard expects to offer the card in the first half of 2019, starting in Singapore and the Philippines, representing some of the most banked (98%) and the least banked (34%) countries in Southeast Asia respectively.
