Mastercard is preparing to enter the Metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) market as seen in its recent filings with the U.S. According to Cointelegraph, Mastercard's filings include plans for a virtual community for digital assets, processing of payments in the Metaverse, an online marketplace for digital goods, and virtual reality events, among others. Mastercard has recently partnered with tonik, a digital bank in the Philippines, to allow the bank's customers to fulfill electronic transactions with merchants accepting Mastercard. Orchestrating the partnership is Mastercard Fintech Express, a tailored program that provides increased speed-to-market, access to a suite of digital-first products, and strategic counsel to be able to successfully build their offerings. The Mastercard debit cards, which allow customers to transact and withdraw cash from Mastercard ATMs and merchants, will be available to customers at the end of the year. Grab and Mastercard has recently announced a partnership to issue prepaid cards that customers can use online or offline at any merchant around the world that is accepting Mastercard. The partnership involves the integration of Mastercard prepaid card with GrabPay, combining the strengths of Grab with a user base of over 110 million downloads, and Mastercard with 3 million-strong network of merchant outlets.
