Meta’s popular Ray-Ban smart glasses are now at the center of a major legal battle. Smart glasses company Solos has filed a lawsuit against Meta and its partner EssilorLuxottica, claiming the Ray-Ban smart glasses were built using ideas taken from Solos’ patented technology. According to the lawsuit, Solos says even the first-generation Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses already used concepts covered by its patents. The company is reportedly seeking billions of dollars in damages and is asking the court to stop further sales of Meta’s smart glasses. Adding to the controversy, Solos says executives from Oakley, an EssilorLuxottica brand, had access to its products and plans years before Meta’s glasses launched. Meta has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit. Meta is reportedly preparing to launch new Ray-Ban smart glasses designed for people who wear prescription lenses, according to recent reports. The report says Meta is working on two designs, one rectangular and one rounded, both made for users who need vision correction.
