The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has ordered e-wallets to unlink their platforms to online gambling sites within 48 hours. Currently, there are 11,985 illegal online gambling sites in the country. The EO, entitled “Strengthening the Fight against Illegal Gambling and Clarifying the Jurisdiction and Authority of Concerned Agencies in the Regulation and Licensing of Gambling and Online Gaming Facilities, and for Other Purposes”, allowed the operations of the POGOs outside of the export processing zones (PEZA, etc). The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has recommended that the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) file charges against social media personality Jam Magno for allegedly promoting illegal online gambling sites. According to the CICC, the finding was the result of an almost month-long investigation following hundreds of complaints against influencers allegedly endorsing unlicensed and unregulated online gambling platforms in the country. The outage started on the evening of June 14, when many BPI customers reported being unable to access the bank's mobile app and online banking platform.
