BSP issues e-wallets to unlink from online gambling sites

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has ordered e-wallets to unlink their platforms to online gambling sites within 48 hours.

BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan has stated that they have issued an order for e-wallet platforms to remove links in-apps to allowing users to use e-gambling sites.

According to Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center Undersecretary Renato Paraiso, he states that the platforms can do this change immediately, but Tangonan said that the platforms are given 48 hours to give them time to inform the public and their users.

Users of the e-wallets can still use the e-wallet platforms by going directly to the e-gambling website. Currently, there are 11,985 illegal online gambling sites in the country.
