Perplexity AI has announced that its AI-powered web browser, COMET, is now available for free to users worldwide. The browser, first introduced in July and initially limited to Perplexity Max subscribers at $200 per month, is designed to act as a personal AI assistant capable of searching the web, organizing tabs, drafting emails, shopping, and more. COMET merges Perplexity’s conversational AI capabilities with the familiar functionality of a traditional browser, allowing users to combine productivity and intelligent search in one platform. Users can now download the desktop version of COMET directly from Perplexity’s website, though it has yet to appear on the macOS App Store or Microsoft Store. The mobile release will make Comet “available on any device, with a personal AI designed for your phone.” Alongside the browser’s public release, Perplexity is also introducing new features. For news readers, COMET PLUS offers curated articles from trusted media partners including CNN, The Washington Post, Condé Nast, Fortune, Le Monde, and Le Figaro. Available for $5 per month, it works similarly to Apple News+, giving users access to premium journalism within the browser.
