The Department of Transportation (DOTr) launched the payment method at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange as part of the government’s Automatic Fare Collection System proof of concept. The initiative aims to modernize public transport payments while giving commuters faster and more flexible ways to pay. The setup also reduces cash handling and supports the broader push for standardized digital payments in public transportation. Today, May 7, 2016, Transportation and Communications Secretary Jun Abaya released photos showing the first trips and passengers of the new MRT Line 3 coaches. Beep has teamed up with Mastercard to bring another contactless payment in public transport such as Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and Edsa and Bonifacio Global City busses.   Through Beep's network, cardholders may use their Mastercard debit, prepaid or credit cards in Philippine public transport without needed to pay for a ticket for entry.
