Qualcomm has announced a more powerful processor and the follow-up to last year's Snapdragon 820 - the Snapdragon 821. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 builds on the technology and strengths of the Snapdragon 820 that powered previous flagship devices. Qualcomm says that the new processor delivers "faster speed, improved power savings, and greater application performance." According to the company, the Snapdragon 821 with Qualcomm Kyro quad-core CPU can deliver a 10% performance increase over the Snapdragon 820 with speeds reaching up to 2.4GHz. Granted that Snapdragon 820 is powering current flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Xiaomi Mi 5, LG G5, and HTC 10, Qualcomm is not looking at the 821 as a replacement but it is there to "complement and extend the competitive strengths" of the Snapdragon 800 lineup. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 is expected to arrive in commercial devices in the second half of 2016. Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon C platform, a new processor designed for entry-level laptops priced starting at around USD 300. Qualcomm said laptops powered by Snapdragon C are expected to launch later this year from brands including Acer, HP, and Lenovo. Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processors.
