This would be similar to the process of applying for a driver’s license for example. The online registration system has faced criticism for being exploited by fraudsters who sell preregistered SIM cards to facilitate scams. The NTC has already directed telecom companies to improve their registration processes and better validate SIM cards. In addition, the commission has proposed new rules to regulate SIM ownership and limit the number of valid government-issued IDs used for registration.
