Your Spotify feed will soon be much more different than it used to. One of the main highlights of Spotify’s Stream On event held on March 9 was the changes on its app user interface. Users can then filter their feed into three categories: music, podcast and shows, and audiobooks. The music feed will include personalized recommendations for singles, albums, and playlists and selected mixes at the top of the feed. The podcast feed has personalized recommendations for new and familiar episodes and shows, with real-time transcriptions allowing users to preview an episode or chapter even with the sound off, and video podcast previews enabling users to watch and listen to the conversation. While the audiobooks feed contains personalized audiobook recommendations, with the audio preview up to five minutes long. Wired quoted Simon Dyson, an Omdia music and digital audio analyst, that if a service such as Spotify can play audio instantly and has a correct algorithm, users will be engaged right away. Spotify has traditionally curated playlists for music discovery, but its new feature allows users to hear samples of songs and podcasts almost instantaneously as they scroll through their feed.
