The TechMeme Leaderboard ranks TechCrunch as the No. 1 source of breaking tech news online, followed by AOL's Engadget.* TechCrunch makes about $6.5 to $10 million a year from advertising and events/conferences. One of the contenders in this year's TechCrunch50 Conference is FitBit, a device that melds fitness and social networking into one tiny motion sensing pedometer you clip and carry around. It's very seldom you'd see something like this would come out of a TechCrunch50 conference (most of the time it's just a social networking website).
