TP-Link announces Archer 8 its first Wi-Fi 8 router platform

Listen to article

TP-Link has officially announced the Archer 8, the company’s first router platform built around the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard.

Scheduled to launch globally in October 2026, the Archer 8 is designed to focus less on peak theoretical speeds and more on improving real-world wireless reliability in increasingly crowded home environments.

According to TP-Link, the next generation of Wi-Fi aims to address common frustrations users experience today, including inconsistent room-to-room coverage, unstable mesh roaming, network congestion, and latency spikes during gaming, streaming, and video calls.

The company says early internal lab testing comparing Wi-Fi 8 against Wi-Fi 7 showed measurable improvements in several areas, including:

  • Up to 33% higher throughput at longer range
  • Up to 24% better throughput consistency under varying signal conditions
  • Up to 15% better mesh performance in interference-heavy environments
  • Up to 30% improved signal performance in multi-floor homes
  • Improved receive sensitivity on 5GHz and 6GHz bands

TP-Link also highlighted the Archer 8’s redesigned premium hardware platform, which combines AI-assisted network optimization, advanced antenna architecture, RF tuning, and upgraded thermal engineering for more stable connectivity across multiple devices.

In terms of design, the Archer 8 adopts a more minimalist and premium aesthetic, featuring micro-textured surfaces, precision contours, and a front-facing ambient light system.

Wi-Fi has always been benchmarked by peak theoretical throughput, but that is not how networks behave in real homes, said PJ Li, President of Product at TP-Link Systems Inc.

Alongside the Archer 8, TP-Link also revealed its broader Wi-Fi 8 roadmap, which includes:

  • Deco 8 mesh system – Q1 2027
  • Roam 8 travel router – Q2 2027
  • Wi-Fi 8 range extenders and adapters – Q2 2027

The TP-Link Archer 8 is expected to launch in October 2026, with final specifications and regional availability to be announced closer to release.
