The move comes after initial police findings indicated that one of the Grade 9 students allegedly involved in the incident was a regular player of the game GoreBox.
GoreBox is a sandbox game released in 2023. It focuses on player-created scenarios, featuring weapons, physics-based interactions and destructible environments.
Authorities stressed that no direct link between the game and the shooting has been established and investigations are still ongoing.
CICC Undersecretary Aboy Paraiso said the temporary ban is a precautionary measure. Authorities are assessing whether the platform may have influenced the suspects.
Meanwhile, Malacañang said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is open to proposals that would restrict or ban violent online games in the Philippines. This is particularly those accessible to minors.
The shooting left three students dead and 20 others injured.
