From Apple Insider, Hong Kong’s Intellectual Property Department has received a couple of trademark submissions from Apple Computer for the terms iPod Hi-Fi and iPod Boombox.
The filings were made on June 13, 2005 and September 20, 2005 respectively. The iPod Hi-Fi could’ve been an alternative name for the iPod 5G at time of filing, while the iPod Boombox filing described the service or device under no specific terms, leaving plenty of room for speculation on the final product.
Currently 3rd-party manufacturers are the ones supplying iPod-compatible speakers and accessories. Among my favorites is Altec Lansing’s Php13,000 boombox (iM7 iBoom).

I’m not sure if this one is still compatible wiht the new 5th Gen iPod Video but since I couldn’t find in Altec Lansing’s Asia-Pacific website, I guess they’re taking it off the shelf.
But will the more exciting news this year be a new WiFi-enabled iPod? Personally, I just want the new iPod to squeeze some mroe juice and do better than a 4-hour video playback time.
