Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G vs Huawei P40 5G Specs Comparison

Samsung has launched its Galaxy Note 20 series sporting a huge AMOLED flat display, 8GB of RAM, triple camera setup, and a decent 4,300mAh with Samsung’s fast charging technology. However, is this newly released Note 20 worth getting when compared to the Huawei P40? Let’s find out!

Display

When it comes to the display, the Huawei P40 sports a smaller 6.1-inch OLED  panel, while the Galaxy Note 20 has a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen. Both are sporting a more traditional flat-screen display and Full HD+ resolution. The Note 20, though, has support for HDR10+.

Chipset

Both of these devices have their manufacturer’s fastest and latest SoCs. The P40 sports Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G, while Note 20 has Samsung’s Exynos 990 octa-core CPU, there is also a Qualcomm Snapdragon variant for some countries. We’re yet to benchmark both devices but you can expect great performance given the flagship chips.

RAM and Storage

When it comes to memory, the Note 20 offered in the country has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For the P40, it has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Note 20 doesn’t support expandable storage, while the P40 supports NM cards.

Cameras

Both the Huawei P40 and the Galaxy Note 20 pack a triple-rear camera setup. The P40 has a higher resolution for the main and ultrawide cameras, while the Note 20 has a higher resolution for the telephoto camera.

As for the front-facing camera, the Huawei P40 has an oval cutout on the upper left corner of the display, which also houses an IR camera for facial recognition. The Galaxy Note 20, on the other hand, has a hole-punch camera situated in the middle.

Again, the number of pixels doesn’t always guarantee image quality. We’ll know which cameras are better once we have both devices for review.

Connectivity & Other Features

When it comes to connectivity, both of these devices have 4G LTE, WiFi 6 Plus Bluetooth 5.1, and an NFC chip built-in and GPS. However, in the case of the Note 20, you’ll have to get it from a telco to get the 5G model.

For biometrics, the Note 20 has an S-Pen, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, and facial recognition, while the P40 also has an in-display fingerprint scanner and IR Facial Recognition.

OS

Both devices are running their own custom UIs based on Android 10. The Note 20 has OneUI 2.1 with Google Mobile Services, while the P40 has EMUI 10.1 with Huawei Mobile Services. Those who want to use Google’s services and apps out of the box will like the Note 20.

Battery

For battery, the Huawei P40 sports a 3,800mAh battery with 22.5W Fast Charging, while the Galaxy Note 20 has a larger 4,300mAh battery also has fast charging. These devices support reverse wireless charging to juice up other devices or accessories with wireless charging capabilities.

Price

Two devices are priced as follows:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20  –  starts at PHP 53,990
  • Huawei P40 5G – PHP 36,990

Conclusion

Those who are with a tighter budget for a flagship smartphone with amazing cameras and readily-available 5G connectivity without going through telcos will find the Huawei P40 an attractive option. However, if you have a bigger budget and want a flagship phone with a larger battery and S-Pen for productivity, there’s the Note 20.
