This was sent in by BPI Express Online to all their customers today. Apparently, there were some problems with Banco de Oro credit card terminals that erroneously reported charges in dollars instead of pesos. So don’t be shocked if you see a $5,000PHP 293,428INR 423,749EUR 4,762CNY 36,392 charge in your bill instead of Php5,000USD 85INR 7,223EUR 81CNY 621.
Here’s the complete explanation sent in via email:
This is to inform you that your peso transactions that were swiped on BDO credit card terminals from August 16 to 18, 2008 were erroneously transmitted by BDO to our office in US dollar currency. A purchase transaction of P1,000 swiped on a BDO terminal, for example, was posted on your card as a US$1,000 purchase (approximately P45,000). This was an error that affected all MasterCard cards (e.g. BPI, Citibank, HSBC) with transactions that were swiped on BDO terminals on the dates mentioned.
Note that corrections were posted on Aug 20, 2008 based on a reversal file sent by BDO. Additional adjustments were made on Aug 21, 2008 to further correct the difference brought about by foreign exchange rate movements.
I always use Visa so my credit cards weren’t affected. Just an FYI to others who might have used their Mastercards with a BDO terminal lately.

I’m using a Citibank Mastercard, but i was not billed in dollars when i purchased something on August 16.
Abe Olandres says:
@gwapito, I think the BDO credit card machine where they swipe it had the bug.
trina says:
yeah..i got this email too. Chaka nman un..at least now I know so I won’t be having a heart attack when I see my bill. lol
rhuby says:
mr yuga, fyi lang po, credit card machine is called POS (Point of Sale) terminal, hindi cia nagka bug, nagkaerror sa transmission ng bdo, instead na peso, usd ang currency na natransmit nila, ok lang yun, di ba ang motto ng BDO is “we’ll find ways…” so I assume they’ve already find ways to correct this error… ha ha ha….
Abe Olandres says:
@rhuby – but isn’t it that the POS terminal is the one sending the transmission? You mean there’s something or someone else doing the transmission? And why just MasterCard and not Visa as well?
Tisha says:
Definitely there was a problem on the program of either BPI or BDO.
jhay says:
I better tell my mother about this. Other wise, she’d kill me once she sees this month’s bill.

Dr. Edward says:
Beware of BDO credit card.
Ain’t satisfied with their services because of the following reasons:
1.) There were a lot errors in their billing of statement.
2.) There billing of statement is late thus you have no enough time to prepare for your payment. Basically you are prone to charges for late payment.
3.) There is no specific date in the “Payment Due Date”.
3.) You can’t contact their telephone numbers using globe telephone.
4.) They have no e-mail address.
I hope the BDO will improve their services in order their customer will be satisfied. Thanks.

BDO SUCKS BIG TYM! When I was withdrawing from their atm, the machine went offline and my acct has debited the money. It’s on a regular Friday pay-out and when I called customer service to complain, I have been told that the process would take 5 days! WOW! WTF! I’m supposed to deposit money for an issued check and that f***** bdo got the money! And since I dont have anything to deposit to my checking acct, I will be charged of penalties. I thought BDO’s motto is “WE FIND WAYS”. How come it takes 5 LOOONGG working days for them to get my money back when I’m a cardholder and I used the bank’s atm for withdrawal. They should really focus on this because some of my friends encountered the same and it happens especially on paydays. If their goal is to become the countries’ #1 bank, they should be giving action on small hassles like this.
