Adobe to kill Flash by 2020

Interactive and creative content has evolved from helper apps, to plugins, to now open web standards. In light of this progress, Adobe is planning to stop updating and distributing Flash Player by the end of 2020 to encourage content creators to migrate to newer open web standards.

With newer improved standards like HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly, they are more capable of providing the functionality that plugins like Flash once pioneered. Adobe will still continue to support Flash through 2020 while creators and partners migrate their platforms. In cooperation with Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla, Adobe will ensure the security and compatibility of Flash content.
