Intel unveils Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and 7 270HX Plus

Listen to article

Intel has introduced its latest Core Ultra 200HX Plus mobile processors, targeting gamers, creators, and power users who need top-tier laptop performance.

The new lineup includes the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus, both designed to push performance further within the existing Core Ultra 200HX platform. These chips focus on higher frequencies, improved efficiency, and new software-level optimizations.

One of the biggest highlights is the introduction of the Intel Binary Optimization Tool, a new optimization layer that can improve performance in select workloads even those originally tuned for different architectures.

Performance-wise, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus delivers up to 8% faster gaming performance and 7% better single-thread performance compared to its predecessor. Compared to older chips like the Intel Core i9-12900HX, gains can reach up to 62% in gaming performance.

The processors also bring faster interconnect speeds, with up to a +900MHz boost in die-to-die frequency, helping reduce latency and improve responsiveness.

On the platform side, the chips support modern connectivity and features including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Thunderbolt 5, enabling faster data transfers, multi-device setups, and high-bandwidth workflows like 8K video editing.

Systems powered by the Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus series are already rolling out from major OEMs including Acer, ASUS, Dell (Alienware), HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer starting March 17, 2026.

Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus specs:
Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus (up to 24 cores / 24 threads)
Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus (up to 20 cores / 20 threads)
Up to 5.5GHz max boost clock
Up to +900MHz die-to-die frequency boost
Up to 36MB Intel Smart Cache
Integrated NPU (AI acceleration)
Xe LPG integrated graphics
DDR5-6400 support
Thunderbolt 4 / Thunderbolt 5 support
Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support
