Listen to article

This year’s Mobile World Congresss in Barcelona saw a lot of smartphone brand dueling it out for attention among industry participants and the media. Among them is realme which showcased their latest number series phone, the realme 14 Pro and Pro+ series.

Jason Guo, CEO of realme Europe opened the ceremony by highlighting realme’s promise of a Gaming Era in 2025. This is supported by using segment-leading chipsets in their smartphones (Snapdragon 8 Elite in GT7 Pro, Snapdragon 7s Gen3 in realme 14 Pro+ and Dimensity 6300 5G in realme 14x)

This year, realme collaborated with Valeur Designs from Italy for the realme 14 Series design. The realme 14 Pro+ comes in three colors — Bikaner Purple, Suede Grey and Pearl White.

Of the three colorways, the Pearl White variant of the relame 14 Pro+ 5G stood out from the crowd with its color-changing design with the back panel.

The color-changing back panel of the Realme 14 Pro+ is a unique and innovative feature that sets it apart from other smartphones. Here’s a more detailed look at this technology.

Thermochromic Technology

The Pearl White variant of the Realme 14 Pro+ incorporates advanced thermochromic pigments in its rear panel. These pigments react to temperature changes, allowing the phone’s appearance to shift dynamically.

Color Transition

• The back panel changes from pearl white to vibrant blue when the temperature drops below 16°C (60.8°F).
• As the temperature rises back above 16°C, the color reverts to its original pearl white appearance.

Unique Patterns

• Each phone’s color-changing effect is unique, creating patterns that resemble seashells.
• The effect is enhanced by a pearl-like texture achieved with organic seashell powder.

Design Collaboration

Realme partnered with Copenhagen-based Valeur Designers to create this cold-sensitive color-changing panel. This collaboration aimed to bring a forward-thinking and youthful aesthetic to the device.

Practical Considerations

• The color-changing effect is not permanent and may fade over time with regular use.
• In warmer climates, users might not frequently experience the color-changing effect.
• Using a protective case would obscure this unique feature.

While the color-changing back panel is certainly eye-catching and conversation-starting, it’s important to note that it’s primarily an aesthetic feature rather than a functional one.

The realme 14 Pro+ offers other great features like its camera system, performance, and durability that may be more practical considerations for potential buyers.
