In a market filled with budget smartphones that often look and feel the same, nubia is taking a bold swing with the V80 Design. Priced like an entry-level device but dressed like a flagship, this phone turns heads before you even power it on. But is it all just good looks? Find out in this full review.

Design and Build
The design bears resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro, which immediately caught my attention.

It received positive reactions from friends thanks to its flagship-inspired design at the back. Our unit is the Midnight Black colorway, but it’s also available in the colors of Pale Amber, Celadon Cyan, and Peach Fuzz.

At the top, there’s the huge camera bump or the so-called “Camera Plateau”, that houses the camera lens and sensors along with its LED Flash, which we will talk more about later. And a nubia logo at the bottom left. The back panel features a textured matte finish and is made from polycarbonate material.
For ergonomics, the nubia V80 Design feels light and easy to grip. It slides into my pocket and bag smoothly. In terms of durability, it feels robust and long-lasting. It can withstand dust and water splashes because it has an IP64 rating. The phone also includes a jelly case in the box for added protection.
The power button, which also doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and the volume rocker are situated on the right side of the port. The AI button and the dual SIM card slot are located on the opposite side. The microphone itself is visible at the top, and the speaker grill, USB Type-C port, and headphone jack are located at the bottom.

The phone supports both fingerprint and facial recognition biometrics. Facial recognition was inconsistent, especially in low-light conditions. When I open the device, it tells me that the light is too dim and that I should move to a well-lit area for easier verification, even though it was able to acquire face data for roughly a moment during setup.
It still had a few minor issues processing my facial registration, even after moving to a brighter environment. The fingerprint sensor offers a more reliable and secure unlocking experience.
Display and Multimedia
Moving now to the display, the nubia V80 Design has a 6.75-inch HD+ IPS LCD that supports a refresh rate of 120Hz. Although it may have a fast refresh rate, I occasionally noticed little lags when reading certain articles and navigating through social media. It has provided me with a respectable experience for an entry-level unit.

The multimedia experience was decent. For a phone like this, it was able to produce a good balance of colors. The top and side bezels are slim and slightly asymmetrical compared to the thicker bottom bezel, which is typical for devices in this price range.

Additionally, it is still pretty visible in direct sunlight if you’re considering using it outside. The maximum brightness of the nubia V80 Design is 1000 nits.
The audio experience is currently where the nubia V80 Design falls short. The display is decent, but the audio quality could be better. The single speaker is loud enough, though the sound feels slightly muffled. Fortunately, the phone includes a headphone jack, allowing for a clearer and more enjoyable audio experience.
Camera

Despite its triple-lens appearance, the nubia V80 Design actually features a dual rear camera setup: a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. The third lens appears to be decorative or non-functional. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera.

The photographs from the front and rear cameras are both respectable. Although it’s not as good as some of you might think, it’s still good enough for daily use. To begin with, this is an entry-level smartphone that does take good pictures for its class. It helps render photos well, mostly because of its AI image processing.

You can zoom up to a maximum of 10x using the camera app’s AI Cam Mode. However, you can make the most of the primary lens with a special 50MP Camera Mode. Additionally, it can still produce surprisingly good and respectable photographs in night mode.
Portrait shots often struggle with subject-background separation, requiring manual focus adjustments.

What about Macro? There isn’t a separate macro lens on the nubia V80 Design. Even so, I made an effort to take close-up photos, and it’s definitely not as good as I had hoped. But hey, at least it can deliver decent and good images for the most part.
The phone can record video in 1080p at 30 frames per second. This holds true for both the front and primary cameras. You can easily see how wobbly my video is with just your hands. Although the phone lacks optical image stabilization, using a tripod or stabilizer would improve the performance of your video.
So, here are some of the sample snaps we have:
Performance
It is powered by the UNISOC Tiger T7280 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM, 12GB of extended memory, and 256GB of internal storage. Performance is acceptable for light tasks and casual gaming. Mobile Legends runs smoothly on low to mid graphics settings, though frame drops are noticeable during intense gameplay.

My brother and sister used the nubia V80 Design to play Call of Duty, and all they said was that it was decent but not great. They’ve had the identical Mobile Legends experience as me. However, you can prevent those lags and significant frame drops by decreasing the graphics settings.

Users looking for high-performance gaming may want to consider other options, but for everyday use, the V80 Design holds its own.

OS, UI and Apps
The nubia V80 Design is running on the latest Android 16, skinned with MyOS on top. For its UI, in my opinion, it’s not as exciting and fun to play around with. It’s limited to arranging app icons, a few additional widgets, and wallpapers, that’s pretty much it for home screen setup.

Although there is some bloatware, it is not a big deal because it is simple to remove. The phone does support Google’s Circle to Search, and as I mentioned before, it has an AI button that takes a screenshot of your screen and sends it straight to AI Memory. For improved memory retention, it contains summaries of everything shown in the pictures.

Other AI nubia features that you can use are AI Live Translator, AI Notepad, AI Magic Eraser, and AI Scam Alert. Regarding upgrades, nubia isn’t very open about them, but we should anticipate system updates for at least two years.

Battery and Connectivity
The nubia V80 Design has a 5,000 mAh battery. Additionally, 22.5W of cable charging is coupled to it. It lasted me a day and a half when I used it regularly. Nevertheless, I think this is where it really excels. I have used this phone to read articles, binge-watch television shows, create vlogs, and play games on the side without significantly taxing the battery.

In our PCMark battery life test, it pumped out a good result of 18 hours and 58 minutes, and that’s actually a pretty good number. As for our video loop test, it was able to achieve a result of 28 hours and 57 minutes. When it comes to connectivity, the nubia V80 Design covers all the essentials, you get 4G/ LTE, Wi-Fi, dual-SIM support, and GPS.

Pricing
Price is a major factor when purchasing a new daily driver and thia phone does not disappoint. The nubia V80 Design is priced at PHP 5,799 for the 4GB + 256GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB model is priced at PHP 7,299. And you can have it in Midnight Black, Pale Amber, Celadon Cyan, and Peach Fuzz.

You can check it out at their official stores and physical stores nation wide.
Conclusion
The nubia V80 Design offers a stylish design, solid battery life, and decent performance for its price. While it may not cater to power users or mobile gamers, it’s a reliable daily driver for casual use.

Its camera system is serviceable, and the display is vibrant enough for media consumption. Audio quality and gaming performance are its main drawbacks, but for users seeking an affordable smartphone with premium looks and dependable battery life, the V80 Design is a worthy contender.
