Following the success of the first batch of Android One devices in India, phone makers are now prepping for a second wave of inexpensive smartphones to release before the year ends.

The first batch of Android One devices launched in India last week.

The first family of Android One handsets were launched last week and were headlined by three phone manufacturers namely: Karbonn, Micromax, and Spice. Their current handsets are equipped with decent specs with a price tag of Rs 6,399 or Php4,624 when directly converted. Karbonn is reportedly the first maker to come out with a second device under Google’s program followed by Spice. Expect the same range of pricing schemes when they launch this December.

In addition, Android One was said to arrive in the Philippines later this year. Here’s what to expect once it makes its way to local shores.

Maybe Android One devices can be update with the most recent Android OS for at least 2 years (or two upgrades). Not bad. There should be Android One devices on the phablet range.

An Android One phablet might be impossible right now. Google created this ‘One’ standard of smartphone with minimum hardware requirements to run stock Android OS. A touchscreen bigger than 4 inches is out of the question.

Syempre posible yun. Magseset lang naman ng minimum requirements eh. Syempre medyo magmamahal ng konti. Wag mo sabihing imposible dahil pwede naman. Ang tanong lang eh kung gagawin ng Google.

Futile and moronic. Mas mura pa main Android ng ibang brands like THL T6S, Asus Zenfone 4, Lenovo A536, and the best bang for buck of ’em all the Cherry Mobile Flare 3.

Yes, the specs may be low end and there may be greater phones than that (I agree with you there) but do these phones have Google’s support for up to 2 years (or more), which means OS upgrade and updates. This project does not aim to please all consumers, it is aiming for the masses, the people who cannot afford a new phone every time a phone with an upgraded OS is released. Still I have read somewhere in the internet, that a Google project (also) same as android one, will be released called the android silver and it will have high end specs (correct me if I’m wrong about that one). Also I agree with you about flare 3 but let’s face it Cherry mobile rarely updates and upgrades a phone, they’ll just release a new phone (as always), but if cherry mobile and other local brands like my|phone will produce an android one phone surely there is an update and upgrade straight from Google (now that is the great part there).

I currently own a CM phone na problematic (baliktad na cam, anyone?) But they’re slowly releasing fixes. Pansin nyo walang masyadong ingay ang CM ngayon unlike dati na halos weekly eh may new release? Kailangan nilang tumino else lalamunin sila ng buhay ng mga foreign brands like Xiaomi and Asus.

  4. HI says:

based on what you’ve said and on the recent events, I do agree with you, it seems that CM just went and did the right thing well the competitions going stiff. apparently they just released a whole series of phones and tablets (plus a tablet pc) with windows os
