YugaTech Gift Guide 2016: Best Games You Can Buy

2016 has undoubtedly seen some of the biggest games to come out. To name a few, there’s the third person Uncharted 4 which is the last of its franchise. The action-packed Battlefield 1 is also a winner in our book due to its gameplay, graphics, and story. From big titles and remastered editions to small, independent game productions, here is our hand-picked titles that you can buy for yourself or for that gamer friend you have.

best-games

The list is grouped by the platform you can play it on. Pricing varies but ranges from Php1,500 to Php2,500+.

Xbox One

gears-of-war-4

For those who have Microsoft’s Xbox One, you can enjoy exclusive games like the testosterone-infused Gears of War 4 and fight creatures with big-ass guns. The Forza Horizon 3 also gives that thrill of car racing with challenges and time trials as well as the capability to modify and set up your vehicle, of course!

halo-5-guardians

If you have a friend or loved one that loves the Halo franchise, there’s the Halo: The Master Chief Collection which is a compilation of the Halo series for Xbox One. To add to it, why not get the Halo 5: Guardians which was just released last October. It got positive reviews during its launch for its gameplay, graphics, and level design and multiplayer modes so it should be a good buy if you have invested in the franchise.

sunset-overdrive

Love the open world style of playing? Check out Sunset Overdrive which is a third person shooter. Although released way back in 2014, it’s still a great and fun game to play due to its humorous antics and its gameplay, of course.

PlayStation 4

uncharted

Jumping to Sony’s PlayStation 4, gamers from this group are entitled to PS4-exclusive games like Uncharted 4 where we see Nathan Drake discover his long lost brother and enjoy one last time of playing this Tomb Raider-inspired game. If you want to play all the sequels before it, you can also opt for the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection that lets you relive the previous titles namely: Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves, and Drake’s Deception.

watch-dogs-2

Watch Dogs 2 lets you enjoy the open world treatment of GTA with a twist of hacking into different things in order to accomplish missions. It’s a fun game whether you want to get serious and finish each task or just lay back and chill as you take a stroll in the city and hack everyday things just to cause chaos. Ratchet and Clank is also a fun and nostalgic game which is sort of a throwback to playing Crash Bandicoot games all over again. With its lively colors per stage and platformer gameplay, you’ll find yourself playing a familiar game with brand new levels.

last-of-us

Speaking of playing old games in 2016 and still enjoying it, The Last of Us should be on your list if it still isn’t. I’ve personally played it for the first time only on PS4 and can say that the story and gameplay doesn’t feel like it’s from 3 years ago — a must-play game for RPG fans who love an exciting gameplay and fantastic storytelling.

Other title you could check out are Until Dawn, Persona 5, Bloodborne, and Resogun.

Cross-Platform

diablo-3

In terms of cross-platform gaming, one of the first titles to come to mind is Diablo 3. With its local and online multiplayer capability, it’s fun to play whether alone or with friends in order to get new items and make your character stronger. If you or someone you know is a big FPS fan for soldiers and everything war-related, Battlefield 1 sets the bar high for gamers of this genre due to its overall treatment. The elements and gameplay are also life-like — adding to that immersive feeling when you play.

star-wars-battlefront

Online gamers will also love Star Wars: Battlefront that offers gameplay like that out of a George Lucas film. Playing it, I personally thought I was in one of the movies and being a fan of the franchise, I absolutely loved it.

final-fantasy-xv

Other notable titles include Call of Duty: Infinite WarfareDragonball Xenoverse 2Street Fighter V, Dishonored, Rainbow 6 Siege, Mafia III, and Skyrim Remastered for when you want to feel like a Dovahkiin again. Doom, Borderlands 2, GTA V, and Dark Souls 3 are also highly-recommended. Oh, and don’t forget the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy XV.

PC

overwatch

Rounding up the list are entries for the PC. They say the “PC Master Race” is the only way to go when gaming and they just might have a good point if you really want to enjoy playing games. Anyway, let us not wander off and start the list with Overwatch. This first-person-shooter (FPS) online game is one of the hottest games you can buy right now. Think of it as the Counter-Strike of 2016 — same gameplay that requires you to either strategize or go hard, guns blazing.

stardew-valley

For those hooked to the classic turn-based strategy gameplay, Civilization VI is an enjoyable game that makes you start from a small a tribe and make your way to controlling the entire planet. If you’re looking for a sort of similar gameplay then there’s Stardew Valley which is a farming simulation RPG and was awarded as the Best Indie Game in Golden Joystick Awards 2016.

mount-and-blade-2-bannerlord

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is an action RPG that follows Mount & Blade: Warband. It is a prequel set 200 years before Warband so it takes you to around 800 A.D. and onwards for that Skyrim-like feel of gameplay.

Those round up our list. Do you have any favorite games that you would like to recommend to other players? It doesn’t have to be launched this year, even old games that are so good you can still play them today are also appreciated. Sound off below!
