마이크로소프트는 지난 6 월 새로운 Surface 및 Surface Pro 노트북과 함께 Windows 10 S를 출시하며, 2017 년 12 월 31 일까지 Windows 10 Pro로 무료 업그레이드를 제공하겠다고 약속했습니다. Windows 10 S는 마이크로소프트가 순수하고 독립적인 운영 체제 (OS) 로 내놓은 제품입니다.
Microsoft 는 10 S 를 보안과 성능을 고려하여 설계된 OS 로 홍보합니다. 그러나 직접 Windows 스토어에서 제공되는 프로그램만 다운로드할 수 있게 되면서 소비자들로부터 엇갈린 반응을 얻었습니다. 하지만 이러한 독점성 덕분에 Microsoft 는 OS 의 성능, 배터리 수명 및 보안을 더 잘 통제할 수 있습니다.
새로운 OS를 선호하지 않으신다면 Microsoft에서 더 널리 사용되는 Windows 10 Pro 로 업그레이드할 수 있는 옵션을 제공합니다. 또한 무료 업그레이드 기간을 2017 년 12 월 31 일에서 2018 년 3 월 31 일로 연장하여 사용자들이 결정할 수 있는 시간을 더 주었습니다.
I’m eager to see how this whole Windows 10 S thing will turn out. On one hand it offers the highest level of security that we’ve ever seen on a Windows OS. On the other hand it also prevents users from installing software out of the Windows Store.
I do think that many non tech-savvy people can take advantage of the security that Windows 10 S offers. But, I also do think that many of those people will throw it away because it does not allow them to install programs.
