나는 작년 싱가포르에서 받은 Western Digital MyBook 500GB에 아직 <200GB> 공간이 남아 있어 집에서 데스크톱 PC 옆에 두고 네트워크 백업 용도로 사용하고 있어.
이제 RAW(7부터 10MB까지 파일당)로 촬영하니, 내 80GB 용량이 부족해졌어요. 여행 중 파일 백업 네트워크 드라이브로 전송할 수 없을 때 외출 시 휴대용 HDD를 함께 가져가기로 결정했어요.
WD 파스포트 휴대용 하드 드라이브가 첫 번째 선택이었고, 더 나은 형인 MyBook과 매우 비슷해 보인다. 내가 받은 160GB 모델(5400rpm)은 5,800페소였고, 용량이 더 낮은 120GB는 4,850페소였다. USB 2.0을 사용하면 최대 전송 속도는 480Mbit/s 또는 약 60MB/s이다. USB 포트는 한쪽 면에 버블캡으로 숨겨져 있다.
It's a fairly lightweight device too at only 105g with dimensions of 15mm x 130mm x 80mm. Compare that to my iPod Touch which is 8mm x 110mm x 62mm and weighs 120g. So, even if the WD Passport is bigger in size than the iPod Touch, it's still a bit on the lighter end.
The black and shiny casing is cool but that makes it prone to dust and smudges. There's a Sync and Encryption software that comes with it so you can choose which file formats and directories you want synchronized with your laptop. It doesn't do full backups though so you can't do disaster-recovery of your OS. It doesn't matter to me since all I wanted it for was to store extra digital photos for my camera.
