ASUS working with developers for ZenFone 6 custom ROM

ASUS is working with developers to help them build custom ROMs for their new ZenFone 6 smartphone.

The ZenFone 6was announced in May and features a 6.4-inch screen, Snapdragon 855 chipset, 5,000mAh battery, a flip camera with 48MP + 13MP sensors, and runs on ZenUI 6 based on Android 9 Pie.

While most smartphone makers are strict when it comes to software modifications, ASUS is embracing it and is working with XDA Developers to help them build custom ROMs for the ZenFone 6.

XDA said that they have already come up with a list of 10 developers from teams like TWRP, LineageOS, OmniROM, and CarbonROM, who will receive development units from ASUS USA. Working on the custom ROMs would be easier as well as ASUS has already released its bootloader unlock tool and kernel source code for the ZenFone 6 a few days after it was launched.

XDA notes that ASUS isn’t formally opening a development program. It’s just a trial to see how well it goes.
