IMHO, Flare is like a phone version of EKEN A90 tablet. Same specs ng processor and RAM. kaya di na nakapagtatakang less than 4K ang price nya.

Cherry Mobile already boosts numerous good reviews on their Android phones. I hope to buy the CM Titan because it has bigger screen but the pixel count makes me think twice. Anyway, it has better battery pack than the Flare.

So yeah, I think I just have to wait until December since Yuletide is already around the corner! We can expect for more discounted sales! I hope these Titan and Flare are both quality phones despite their cheapness on price.

I have a CM Nova(Android,2010) almost 3 years old still 100% up and running. It’s easy to blame the phone company pero nasa tao lang din talaga yan. Kahit top brand pa yan like the different fruits kung wala kang alaga sa gadget mo sira talaga yun.

Proud CM Nova owner here! Nagla-lag na ngayon konti ang CM Nova ko. Pero, in fairness, I think it started lagging only after I dropped it for the NTH (100+) times. Isang beses natanggal pa nga sides ng casing. So kasalan ko? hehe.

Not really. 2 units of Cherry Orbits, both of them very well taken care of, both of them broke down by having phantom taps and short on the sensors.

But that wasn’t my problem w/ Cherry Mobile. Defects and malfunctions ARE part of the deal, always. It’s how they handle their customer support. Cherry Mobile has the WORST support ever. Took me 3 months with my 1st Orbit (1 Month, tested no damage, returned the next day since problem reoccured, another month, replaced LCD, returned an hour after since extreme phantom taps exists, another month for replacement), then 2 months with the other Orbit (Short on sensors, a month of wait. Returned to me “fixed”, but after testing, it was still the same, complained, they “fixed” it again but left the warranty sticker off, after a day, returned since it was never “fixed”, they voided my warranty after 3 months of non-use since purchase)

Price is never always the answer. Cherry Mobile should fix their lousy customer service. No amount that you saved will help you in these irritating situations.

William Co · 14 years ago

It’s the price versus features/durability equation. At that price, it’s hard to argue if this will last as long as a branded (ie. Samsung) product. As long as it last a little over it’s one-year guarantee, I think it’s okay na. The specs are near that of a Galaxy SII (except for the internal memory), and an SII still sells for 18-19k. You could get four of these for an SII.

As for built-quality, I recently bought a Cherry Dragon Phone (W900) and am satisfied with it. There are bugs here and there, but on the whole it is okay for the pric e then (Php 5999). This is way better, spec wise.

Only advantage for branded products is accessories. One of the joy of a smartphone is it’s accessories like cases which you can change for a 100 or two and you feel like having a new gadget. Hopefully, Cherry Mobile will have some at launch.

Finally, these good enough phones is making it harder to get a high-end phone like the iPhone5 or the Samsung SIII. Sure those beast have better screens, processors, etc. But for 98% of users, the extra spec are barely noticed. A 800×480 screen is good enough for most web browsing. The 1.2 Dual-Core is good enough for most games. Most super high end games are best played on tablets and PC anyway. Casual games runs fine on my year-plus old SII (which is why I find it hard to justify upgrading to an SIII). The term is good-enough – for a fraction of the price, you get 95% of what Android has to offer and maybe 98% of what Android ICS can do for everyday task (like calling/sms/mms/facebook/etc). So will the good-enough phones cannibbalizes the sale of Samsung and co.? Pertsonally, I bought a Galaxy Pocket for my second sim, and recently upgraded to a Cherry Mobile w900. The increase in screen res is so much that I don’t use the Pocket anymore. And as said, the w900 feels good enough even against my Samsung SII (ecept the paltry internal mempory that the new Flare will partly address).

One thing to look for in these good enough phones (Starmobile, Myphone, Cherry Mobile Androids) is the screen and the processor. These new ones with dual cores above 1 Ghz shoukld be speedy-enough. But the screen tech should at least be IPS or oine that have a wide viewing angle. The first Androids (like Orbitz, Candy) have bad screens with low resolution o r poor viewing angle which stop it from being good enough. Thw w900 and the Flare (with it’s IPS ) should be good-enough. The Titan is not listed in the specs as IPS, so will await judgment. Ditto, Starmobile phones. One of the myPhone Android (forgot the model) doesn’t have 3G which is a downer for Android…

Got work to do, enough for now about these good-enough musings…

Wait for the Starmobile Bright and/or Astra coming out first week of November and then decide.

My driver bought a CM phone and it broke down 3 months later. It took him another 3 months before he could claim it at its North EDSA Service Center.

Will wait for the
Cherry Mobile Titan vs. Starmobile Astra

Good points for Titan:
HSPA+ (I hope it could support WCDMA850mhz of Smart)
2350mah battery

Good points for Astra:
HSDPA (with WCDMA850mhz support)
8 Megapixel Camera
Analog TV

Need to test first.
My Cherry Mobile M35 still in good working condition (more than 2 years).

still the quality of the releases will determine this babies.
if you check out the service centers of myphone and cherry at sm,
there is much lesser people going to myphone than cherry’s.
i own a starmobile phone and so far it’s quality is comparable to myphone, i think we better wait for reviews, or myphone’s Bigger A series and starmobile’s ASTRA than these cherries. just a tip.

i think kaya mababa ang pricing nila ngayon eh bec. of competition sa other local brands.

Myphone & StarMobile’s new android handsets ( ICS, dual-core, 4++inch IPS screen) are also priced below 7k! At OEMs naman din ata ang mga units nila like CM’s Titan (Konka w990 in China), na may good reviews naman.

sana pababaan pa sila ng presyo. LOL!
i’ll definitely give this a try pag available na.

This looks like a quick jab at Lenovo. The Titan is quite the deal compared to its Lenovo counterpart, the S880.

And the Flare is in “impulse buy” territory. Its specs are comparable to Lenovo’s P700i (save for the battery), but the price difference is huge.

Now people would just have to wait for the reviews and see if these are good.
