Huawei P20 Pro Hands-On, First Impressions

Huawei also has a new bigger and beefier smartphone in the name of the P20 Pro, and it sports not one, not two, but three rear cameras that aim to take photography to a whole new level. Here’s our first look at the device.

Similar to the P20, the P20 Pro exudes a new design that encompasses an all-glass surface at both the front and back and is great to hold with one hand despite the larger size.

The 6.1-inch display is what you’ll see at the front along with the 24-megapixel front camera, the call speaker grille, and a couple of sensors up in Huawei’s version of the notch. This can be easily hidden, thanks to a toggle you can find in the phone’s settings menu.

The left side of the device houses the hybrid dual-SIM card slot tray, while the right side has the volume rocker and the power/lock button. At the bottom of the device are the USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker.

Flip the device at its back and you’ll see a similar setup with the P20, this time with a three-camera setup composing of a 40-megapixel RGB, 20-megapixel monochrome, and 8-megapixel telephoto lenses with an accompanying LED flash module, and the Huawei wordmark placed all at the left side. The device, given its all-glass construction, is a fingerprint and smudge magnet but can easily be wiped off. At 180 grams, it may have that bit of heft but is still manageable to hold for longer periods of time.

One of the P20 Pro’s top features is its triple Leica rear camera setup, and we were able to prove it when we used it for a quick spin during the launch. The device was able to capture great low-light shots by filling in brightness in dimmed environments, and it automatically offered modes to use depending on subjects we aim with the help of the integrated AI. Here are some sample shots we took:

Hybrid Dual SIM card slot? or just dual sim slot?
