We have some new mid-range smartphones in the market, and they all carry nice specs and competitive price tags. Two of the most discussed devices right now is the triple-rear-camera-wielding Huawei P30 Lite and the Samsung Galaxy A50. Priced closely to each other, let’s find out which looks better on paper.

It looks like the P30 Lite doesn’t have a lot of advantage over the Galaxy A50. The former packs more pixels in the screen because of the slightly smaller screen size. However, the 12ppi difference wouldn’t be noticeable in everyday usage.
The two also use different display panels and would depend on user preference. If you like natural colors, go with the P30 Lite, but if you want deeper blacks and more punchy colors, the Galaxy A50 can deliver. The latter also has the advantage of having Gorilla Glass protection.
The P30 Lite also has a higher front camera resolution which should produce sharper images which selfie lovers would like. Quality-wise, we’ll let you know once we have our reviews out.
The Galaxy A50 dominates the rest of the spec sheet. It has a higher main and depth rear camera resolutions and wider apertures, updated Bluetooth for better wireless connectivity with other devices, and in-display fingerprint scanner for that more seamless look at the back, and a dedicated microSD card slot which is a big deal for those who to expand the built-in storage without sacrificing dual-SIM functionality.
When it comes to the battery, the two have fast charging technologies, but the Galaxy A50 wins in capacity. We’re not done testing both devices, but we’re putting our money on the A50.
Performance-wise, the two carries the same 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage but feature different chipsets. The P30 Lite uses the 12nm-based Kirin 710 CPU with a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU, while the Galaxy A50 has the 10nm-based Exynos 9610 CPU with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. We haven’t benchmarked the P30 Lite, yet so we’re going to base the result from the Nova 3i which also uses the same Kirin 710 chip.

Looking at the results, the Galaxy A50 can provide better numbers overall, especially in the GPU part which is essential when it comes to gaming.
Lastly, the price, the Huawei P30 Lite costs PHP 16,990 which is not bad. However, we’d recommend extending your budget to PHP 17,990 for the Samsung Galaxy A50. This device should put more bang for your buck.
