Apple iPhone 12: Is it worth waiting for?

Listen to article

A few months from now, we will see another smartphone from Apple in the form of the iPhone 12 series. As expected, leaks and reports around this upcoming device have already surfaced. And given that early information, is it something worth waiting for? Or should you get whatever’s available now?

Size

According to tech analyst Jon Prosser, his sources within Apple (the same people who gave him info on the release date of the iPhone SE 2020) said that the iPhone 12 series will have four variants; 5.4, 6.7, and two 6.1-inches. Prosser also said that all iPhones will most likely sport an OLED display regardless of the price (FINALLY!).

Price and Features

Reports say that the iPhone 12 will have two cameras; wide and ultrawide lenses, and 5G support. It will start at $649 for the base 5.4-inch and $749 for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12. For the Pro models, it will still have the triple-camera setup like in iPhone 11 Pro models, plus a LiDAR sensor. For pricing, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro will start at $999  and $1,099 for the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Performance

When it comes to performance, Apple manages to outperform the Snapdragon 865 by a hair with its A13 Bionic in Geekbench 5. With the upcoming A14 Bionic on the iPhone 12 series, we can expect significant improvements in this department.

Design

Reports point that all iPhones will be made out of Stainless steel body for the Pro models, and aluminum for the regular iPhone 12 models. We can expect some design cues from the new iPad Pro models with its boxy edge design, which is different from the current curved edge design on the iPhone 11, as well as the smaller notch.

Worth waiting?

As an iPhone 11 user, the new iPhone shouldn’t excite me much and should anticipate the iPhone 13 instead. However, the OLED display on the base model of the iPhone 12 series and the smaller bezel and notch is too enticing. I’m super pumped about the fact that Apple might release a more compact 5.4-inch iPhone 12 given my small hands.

Like me, you might be asking if these upcoming iPhone 12 models are worth the wait? If you want the newest and fastest iPhone on the market or maybe you have an older iPhone, then yes, it is. But if you have Apple’s current iPhone 11, especially from a performance standpoint, I think it isn’t. Unless you really dig the new design.

Again, the information mentioned above is not official yet and I’m sure that there are more to these iPhones than just upgraded specs and new design. Who knows, Apple might surprise us with a feature that even iPhone 11 users would definitely want.
