Philippines’ smartphone market at lowest quarterly shipments this Q1 2023

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has reported that the Philippines’ smartphone market has declined in the last three years.

IDC has stated that in their Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the Philippine smartphone market has declined by 16.7% each quarter and 11% by each year.

“The last time shipments hit below 3.5 million records was back in 1Q20 when the pandemic just started and the first lockdown was implemented,” says Client Devices Senior Market Analyst at IDC Philippines Angela Medez.

After two years at the top, realme was dethroned by Transsion as the best smartphone manufacturer in the Philippines. More than 50% of the company’s total shipments are now contributed by Tecno, a sub-brand of Transsion that outperformed Infinix in terms of market share.

“Though it seems that the market has finally bottomed out and is on its road to recovery with inflation finally slowing down, IDC anticipates shipments to remain flat in 2023 as vendors will remain cautious with inflation still above comfortable levels,” Medez stated.
