Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge’s camera is the best to date – DxOMark

A new imaging beast is crowned: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge tops DxoMark’s list of mobile smartphone camera rankings, ousting both the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Based on the company’s benchmark analyzers, the Galaxy S7 Edge scored 88, one point higher than the now-tied for second place smartphones, citing that the Korean tech conglomerate’s newest flagship ‘is a great proposition for mobile photography enthusiasts’ with accurate and repeatable exposures, outstanding exposure and contrast, and a good balance between noise and detail, and fast and accurate autofocus.

The analysis also indicated that Sammy has done notable improvements to its video performance with auto-stabilization and pleasant color profile.

Now the big question remains, which sensor did this analysis use? We know that Samsung has deployed two variants of its camera sensor to the newest flagship — one that sports a Samsung-made ISOCELL S5K2L1 sensor, and the other sporting an IMX260 sensor from Japanese tech giant Sony. Whichever the camera hardware the phone uses, Samsung may have just proved that it’s not about the huge pixels that matter in taking better mobile photos.
