ARCHOS unveils 80 Cesium, a Php6,500 Windows 8.1 tablet

Listen to article

ARCHOS, a mobile device manufacturer based in France, has recently announced a plethora of devices in preparation for this year’s IFA. One of those devices is an 8-inch tablet dubbed as the ARCHOS 80 Cesium which runs on full version of Windows 8.1 and is powered by a quad-core Intel processor.

ARCHOS 80 Cesium

In a short description of the tablet provided in the the press release, the ARCHOS 80 Cesium is said to have an 8-inch IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution and will come pre-installed with Windows 8.1right out of the box. Doing the workload for the tablet is an undisclosed quad-core processor made by Intel.

Sadly that’s all there is to it for now as the press release didn’t give out a lot of details about the ARCHOS’ exciting new Win8.1 tablet. What we do know though is that the ARCHOS 80 Cesium will be available in the market starting on October and will have a very competitive price tag of just USD149 when it hit shelves.

The article is quite confusing. The photo shows Windows Phone 8/8.1 OS interface but the article says it running full Windows 8.1 OS (x86 or x64).
And if it is running in full Windows 8.1 OS, Office 2013 won’t come preinstalled (it may have but it could be pricier).

It’s nice to know that we’re seeing now affordable products with Windows 8.1 & Windows Phone 8.1 devices under 10 inches. Microsoft did announce before that they are making the licenses free as long as its below that screen size.

Most probably the tablet is a standard Windows 8.1 OS and not Windows Phone 8.1 OS is loaded, since it’s being powered by an Intel processor. (Haven’t seen any WP8/8.1 phones Intel procie AFAIK)

The question is: when they (Archos) will bring this tablet to PH? :)

I’m currently using the ASUS Tranformer Book T100. And frankly, Windows 8 is getting there. If it were to get more quality apps, then android would probably fade away.

Wow, mura!

I have the same situation. Windows tablets dont have much apps thats the sad reality of the platform. Negative comments about windows8 UI did not help either. Anyway, I would buy this in a heart beat XD
