According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently working on an entry-level MacBook model with an A-series iPhone processor, set to debut in the first half of 2026. Internally codenamed J700, the device is currently in early production and could mark Apple’s boldest move yet into the budget laptop market.

Unlike current MacBooks powered by M-series chips, this model will reportedly use an LCD display slightly smaller than the 13.6-inch MacBook Air, and focus on students, casual users, and business customers. Priced below $1,000, it’s positioned to compete directly with Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops
Rumors suggest it could feature the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro, delivering performance on par with the M1 MacBook Air while maintaining strong power efficiency. If true, this “lite” MacBook could redefine Apple’s lower-end lineup, bringing the Mac experience to a wider audience without the premium price tag.
