Newly uncovered information suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series will switch to a squircle design. Notably, the screen itself remains circular on these watches, similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s from last year.

Android Authority, through an APK teardown of the unreleased Galaxy Watch 8 Classic (SM-L505) firmware, discovered these details in the animation files. These files also revealed the internal codenames for the watches: “Fresh 8” for the Galaxy Watch 8 and “Wise 8” for the Watch 8 Classic.

The Galaxy Watch 8 will come in two sizes, while the Watch 8 Classic, which might bring back the rotating bezel, will be available in a single, standard size. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic might feature a Quick Button, similar to the Ultra, along with extended vibration pattern support.
The Galaxy Watch 8 Series will run on One UI 8 Watch, which includes the ‘Now Bar’ from One UI 7 for smartphones. The update will also bring support for randomized watch faces, a battery protection feature to limit charging to a certain percentage, and a new Shortcuts app to place frequently used apps on the watch face.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which could mean that the original model will remain the flagship for another year.
