In this day and age, we tend to take the ability to easily make calls and connect to the internet from just about anywhere, for granted. This has boosted our lives to never-seen-before levels of convenience and productivity – proven by the Philippines consistently ranking among the highest usages of mobile devices and internet. Unfortunately, many Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in the country still cannot enjoy these benefits due to the lack of cellular support. This is where Globe has stepped in to connect users, wherever they may be.
As it stands now, around 7,063 barangays are still classified under GIDAs, with approximately 25 million residents in these areas. Globe brought connectivity to about 600 locations last year and plans to continue its efforts this year.
Globe believes that enabling inclusive access to the internet should be a national priority and responsibility, as it provides needed help in critical fields such as medicine, agriculture, education, and others. This should be done regardless of profitability – in order to uplift communities and the people that comprise them.
To this end, Globe has not only added new cell sites but enhanced the coverage of existing ones, added 4G LTE compatibility, and deployed more energy-efficient ways to spread signal around.
